José Manuel Castro López is Spanish artist whose sculptures include stones that are manipulated as if it was soft clay. In contradiction to the tough material, López’s sculptures are comprised of a number of twists and turns, waves and wrinkles, bends, folds, and peels that bring out the softened texture of the stone. His extraordinary sculptures will make you question the laws of physics, without a doubt.
According to López, his out of the world creations were widely inspired by the Galician mythology. In an interview with The Creators Project, this distinctive artist stated that: “My relationship with the stone is not physical, but magical.” He went on to describe the relationship between himself and his stones as: “It recognizes me, it obeys me…we understand each other.” He further stated that his stones are not lifeless, and that they manifest themselves.
