Transgender Woman Disowned By Family Crowned Miss New Zealand

Arielle Keil, a trans-Filipino woman, has been crowned Miss Intercontinental New Zealand 2020 for the first time in history.

Arielle was born into a conventional Filipino family and was raised in Davao city till she moved to New Zealand. The 26-year-old started her transition in 2017. She underwent an extremely tough time as she wasn’t accepted by her own family.

In an interview with Metro, Arielle stated that coming out as a transgender was far more terrifying than coming out as gay because with that, your whole life, and the way people see you changes forever.

The beauty queen further stated:

When Arielle first came out as trans, her family has kicked her out. But now, her father fully accepts her. She revealed that presently, she can see that her father is genuinely proud of her. She also stated that the pageant was a wonderful experience and that to her, it’s a dream come true.

She urged all the Filipinos who aspire to travel on a similar path to stay true to themselves. She stated that we should never take decisions based on outsiders’ opinions. “You only have one life, live it on your terms!”, the fashion design student concluded.
