During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ahmed Flaty has been training to be a nurse in an Egyptian hospital, and his schedule as an intern has been extremely busy. Flaty rarely gets a break, and when he does, he goes on little walks near the hospital premises.
Flaty was sitting near the hospital and relaxing when he was approached by a stray cat. It felt as if the cat knew that Flaty needs to be comforted, and decided to help.
In an interview with The Dodo, Flaty stated: “I was sitting down to talk with a friend of mine in front of the hospital where we have our internship year and as I was speaking with him this little kitten walked up to me.” He continued, “She didn’t meow or anything — just looked at me, then climbed onto my lap, looked at me for a bit, and then slept.”
Flaty revealed that he was truly surprised when the animal approached him. He emphasized that since stray animals are very badly treated in Egypt, cats and dogs coming up to a human is extremely rare. The fact that the cat chose to come to him even with no food involved is even more unbelievable.
The cat affectionately snuggled the nurse in training, and the two stayed like that for 15-20 minutes. When the feline decided that her task was completed, she got up and left. Flaty said that after the snuggle session, he immediately felt better, and was ready to face whatever that comes up at the hospital. Flaty revealed that he had been working 12-hour shifts for about 20 days consecutively, but the lovable cat made everything feel like nothing.
Flaty also said that although he would love to adopt a cat or a dog, his busy schedule doesn’t allow him to do so. After their well-deserved cuddle session, Flaty hasn’t seen the little cat. But he’s always looking out for him whenever he’s on a break. He expressed his love for the little stray, saying: “Honestly, it really was the best moment of this whole year so far.”
